Calcite crystallizes in the trigonal crystal system and develops different crystal and aggregate forms (habit). In pure form, calcite is colorless and transparent. However, due to multiple light refraction due to grating buildup or polycrystalline formation, it can also appear white, the transparency decreasing correspondingly, and a yellow, pink, red, blue, green, brown or black color assumes an external coloring.
